Wichita City Council Unveils 2025 Water Conservation Rebate Program

The Wichita City Council has officially approved a comprehensive new water conservation rebate program for 2025, a move aimed at encouraging residents to adopt more water-efficient practices within their homes and landscapes. This initiative, available to all customers with active potable water accounts with Wichita Public Works and Utilities, is set to provide financial incentives for the purchase of various water-saving devices.

The program, effective for devices purchased between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025, offers rebates up to the purchase price, excluding taxes and installation costs. Key eligible items and their corresponding maximum rebate amounts include:

  • Rain Barrels: Up to $100 for a new, installed 45-gallon or larger rain barrel.
  • Smart Irrigation Controllers: Up to $100 for a new, installed WaterSense certified controller that replaces a conventional irrigation clock. (New construction is specifically excluded).
  • High-Efficiency (HE) Clothes Washers: $100 for a new HE clothes washer meeting specific Modified Energy Factor (MEF) and Water Factor (WF) criteria.
  • High-Efficiency Toilets (HET): Up to $100 for a new HET (1.6 gallons per flush or less).
  • High-Efficiency Dishwashers: Up to $100 for a new high-efficiency dishwasher.
  • Dual Flush Toilet Conversion Kits: Up to $50 for kits converting inefficient toilets.
  • Hose/Faucet Irrigation Controllers: Up to $100 for a new, installed WaterSense certified controller.
  • Rain Sensor Shut-off Devices: Up to $100 for devices set to shut off irrigation after 1/4 inch of rain.
  • Toilet Repair Kits: Up to $35.

Eligibility for the program is restricted to individuals connected to the KansasLand Public Works & Utilities potable water supply within city limits, maintaining an active account at the installation address. The name on the utility account must correspond with the name on the rebate application. New construction remains ineligible for these rebates.

Applications for the rebates must be submitted within 90 days of the purchase date, with a strict postmark deadline. The application process will be facilitated through both an online portal and a printable PDF form, accessible via the KansasLand.net website. Applicants are required to provide original sales invoice(s) to verify their purchases.

A limit of five qualifying devices per active water utility account is enforced, allowing for a combination of eligible items. Approved rebates will be issued as credits to the applicant’s Water Utility account, with an approval timeframe of up to eight weeks.

The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of allocated funds. As of July 7, 2025, the program reportedly has over $28,000 in remaining funding, having already processed rebates totaling over $81,000 for more than 887 approved devices.
