WICHITA, KS – August 7, 2025 – After a brief reprieve from the most oppressive summer heat, Kansas is set to turn up the thermostat once again. The coming weekend promises to be a mix of intense heat, high humidity, and scattered storm chances, especially for the northern and western parts of the state.

The Breakdown for Wichita and Central Kansas

  • Friday, August 8, 2025: Get ready to sweat! Friday will be mostly sunny with temperatures soaring into the triple digits. The forecast high is a sweltering 101°F. Humidity will also be on the rise, making it feel even hotter. There’s a slight, 5% chance of rain during the day, with that chance increasing to 20% overnight as a front begins to approach. Winds will be out of the south at about 17 mph.
  • Saturday, August 9, 2025: Saturday will bring a slight break from the extreme heat, but it will still be plenty hot and humid. Expect mostly cloudy skies with a high temperature of around 97°F. The best chance for rain and storms will be in the afternoon and evening, with a 25% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day and a 20% chance at night. Winds will remain out of the south at about 15 mph.
  • Sunday, August 10, 2025: The week wraps up with a similar weather pattern to Saturday. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a high of 94°F. There is another 25% chance of rain and storms during the day, with the possibility of a “pretty good line of storms” moving through central and northern Kansas in the afternoon and evening, according to forecasts. The chance of rain drops to 20% overnight. Winds will shift to a more southerly direction, with speeds around 12 mph.

Across the Sunflower State

While Wichita will see some rain chances, a more significant weather event is anticipated for the northern and western parts of Kansas. The approaching cold front from the north is expected to bring a higher probability of storms to these areas, particularly on Sunday evening. Residents in those regions should keep a close eye on the forecast and be prepared for potential severe weather.

Looking Ahead

After the weekend’s hot and humid conditions, a cooling trend is on the horizon for early next week, with temperatures dropping into the upper 80s and a continued chance for showers. But for now, get ready for a scorching and potentially stormy weekend. Stay hydrated, stay cool, and have a plan in place in case of severe weather.
