Wichita’s “The Hub” Opens June 6: Everything You Need to Know About the City’s New Transit Center
WICHITA, Kan. — After years of planning, federal grants, and construction, Wichita’s long-awaited multimodal transit facility is days away from opening its doors. The Wichita City Council voted unanimously to overhaul the city’s public transit system, moving routes from the current transit center in downtown Wichita on Topeka Street to the new multi-modal transportation hub in Delano. The facility, officially named The Hub, opens Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Where Is It?
The Hub is located at 207 S. Sycamore in the Delano neighborhood, west of Riverfront Stadium. It sits on a 1.5-acre square block bordered on all four sides by Oak, Texas, Sycamore, and Burton streets.
Getting there by car: Buses and shuttles enter the new plaza from the south off Burton Street and exit off Texas. A ramp for vehicles to access the upper parking floors runs along the west side of the building, with the entrance off Burton.
Getting there without a car: Wichita residents and visitors can walk, bike, scooter, drive, or take a bus to the facility, and Uber/Lyft drop-off areas are available on-site.
What’s Inside?
The building is more than 53,000 square feet and features 12 bus bays and 425 parking spaces. It includes Uber and Lyft drop-off areas and charging capabilities for electric vehicles.
The first floor is the main area of operations where buses will enter and exit. There will be benches on the platform as a waiting area, with four buses in each lane. A lobby will allow people to buy tickets and access elevators to the upper floors for parking.
Administrative offices spanning 5,618 square feet will house Transit operations staff, ticket windows, a security office, and a lobby area.
The Hub will also bring the city’s bike share program and e-scooter rentals under the same roof, making it easier to access every mode of transportation from one location.
Park & Ride — A Game Changer for Downtown
One of the facility’s biggest selling points is its park-and-ride capability. “Delano is going to become the gateway to downtown, with 425 parking spaces. Anyone can park there and take a bus downtown for dinner or an event, and then return to their car later that night, and not worry about walking blocks or moving their car,” said Penni Feist with Wichita Transit.
Transit Director Penny Feist described it as a “park once” solution. “People can have a park once solution, use our facility to park, take a bus downtown or wherever else they might like to travel,” Feist said.
The facility will also provide access to Riverfront Stadium and allow visitors to avoid parking on pedestrian areas in the surrounding neighborhood.
Route Changes — What’s New, What’s Gone
Existing bus routes will change to better align with area grocery stores and other essential services. One route will be discontinued, but a new pilot route will be introduced for south Wichita, with potential for future expansions. City transit will also improve frequency to every 30 minutes on three existing routes.
Route 201, which runs on Rock Road from K-96 to Harry, ended on May 22.
Free rides during the transition: Wichita Transit is providing free rides from May 23 to June 6 during the transition. Additionally, free rides are being offered June 6–20, 2026 to help riders get familiar with the new system and routes.
How Was It Funded?
In November 2019, the City of Wichita received a Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Grant from the USDOT for $14,232,816. In December 2020, the City Council approved an additional $19.2 million for design, infrastructure and utility work, construction, and project management. The final budget was approved in August 2024, with groundbreaking occurring in October 2024.
